HLAA is pleased to announce grants are now available to hearing loop advocates attending the 3rd International Hearing Loop Conference in Eastbourne, England, October 5 – October 7, 2013.
The grants will underwrite airline and registration expenses associated with attending the Conference. Grant recipients will contribute their time to attend, and pay for their other expenses such as hotel, food and incidental expenses. This grant program is part of HLAA’s Consumer Awareness, Education and Advocacy Program on Hearing Loops and a follow-up to the incredibly successful 2nd International Hearing Loop Conference that HLAA produced and hosted in Washington, DC in June 2011. For more information about the Conference please go to www.hearinglink.org/loopconference. This grant is generously underwritten by a private family foundation.
Background
The purpose of this grant program is to enable leading American advocates and potential advocates to attend the Conference to:
- meet and network with advocates from other countries
- meet and network with advocates from across the US
- learn more about what other countries are doing to support and successfully advocate for looping
- participate in technical workshops
- learn about new hearing loop technologies
- understand the international standard for looping
- understand different stakeholders perspectives
- learn about the installation of looping systems
- understand what the barriers are that make advocating to install loops difficult
Criteria
This is a competitive grant with limited funding available. Applicants are required to meet the following criteria.
- Be or become a member of HLAA
- Support HLAA’s perspective and positions on hearing loops
- Value HLAA’s collaborative approach to hearing loop advocacy through education, public awareness and advocacy
- Agree to educate, advocate and promote hearing loops for 1 year after the Conference, track these activities and provide a written report to HLAA to measure outcomes and progress
- Be responsible for all expenses not covered under the grant program
- Provide appropriate documentation to be reimbursed for airfare and registration expenses – airfare covers economy class only and grantees are expected to book flight reservations as soon as possible to get the lowest airfare possible (this will allow us to underwrite the cost for more grantees to attend the Conference)
- Agree to return grant funding if, for any reason, you are unable to attend the Conference (you may want to purchase travel insurance)
- Submit all expense documentation as soon as possible after booking travel and registration but no later than 14 days after attending the Conference
