HLAA Mourns Board of Trustee Victor Matsui

With great sadness we announce the death of Victor Matsui, a member of the Hearing Loss Association of America’s board of trustees since 2005. Read about his years of service in the Army and distinguished career in the American diplomatic service, and view many family photos by clicking here. Vic was a gentle and kind man, and will be missed very much.

Manhattan Chapter Adds Venues with Loops to Their Website

HLAA’s Manhattan Chapter actively supports communication access in public places. Ellen Semel, chair of the chapter’s Hearing Loop Committee, helps lead the movement. In December 2011, she and Fred Palm of AssistiveAudio/Ampetronic presented looping technology information to the New York Chapter of the American Institute of Architects’ Procrastinators Day, which provides architects with opportunities to earn continuing education units.

The latest issue of Hearing Loss Magazine is in the mail. The big news with this issue is that if you are a member of the Hearing Loss Association of America, you can also read Hearing Loss Magazine online at www.hearingloss.org before it hits your mailbox.

So wherever you are – at home on your computer, on vacation with your smart phone or iPad - you can read it. And, if you need to adjust your browser for your individual needs, you can do that too.

Access Your HLAA Information

You can now create a User ID and Password to access the HLAA Online Portal.

With a login you can:

  • Update your contact information including mailing address, e-mail address, and phone number.
  • Update your e-mail preferenced
  • View membership information such as the expiration date.
  • View your giving history and receive an e-receipt for donations made to HLAA.
  • Register online for Convention 2012 (June 21 – 24 in Providence, Rhode Island)
  • Register for HLAA courses and training
  • and more!

Hearing Loss Association of America Speaks Out on the Latest UnitedHealthcare® Initiative

The UnitedHealthcare® hi HealthInnovations announcement of its direct hearing services to consumers has caused quite a stir. The audiology professional organizations and the hearing aid specialist organizations and some hearing aid companies have already staked out positions against it reiterating that the only approach to effective hearing health care is through an audiologist or hearing aid specialist.
