Hearing Loss Association of Sarasota (HLAS) has just been named the BEST CAUSE by SRQ Magazine in their annual Best of SRQ Local awards.
In addition to the BEST CAUSE, the loop advocacy earned HLAS another recognition in the Best of SRQ Local with the BEST VISIONARY award.
With great sadness we announce the death of Victor Matsui, a member of the Hearing Loss Association of America’s board of trustees since 2005. Vic was a gentle and kind man, and will be missed very much.
HLAA’s Manhattan Chapter actively supports communication access in public places. Ellen Semel, chair of the chapter’s Hearing Loop Committee, helps lead the movement. In December 2011, she and Fred Palm of AssistiveAudio/Ampetronic presented looping technology information to the New York Chapter of the American Institute of Architects’ Procrastinators Day, which provides architects with opportunities to earn continuing education units.

Hearing Loss Association of America and 17 other national and local organizations sent a strong message to Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius urging inclusion of hearing health care under the Affordable Care Act.

The 2nd International Hearing Loop Conference was co‐hosted by the Hearing Loss Association of America (HLAA) and the American Academy of Audiology (Academy) in Crystal City, Virginia, from June 18 through June 20, 2011.
The UnitedHealthcare® hi HealthInnovations announcement of its direct hearing services to consumers has caused quite a stir. The audiology professional organizations and the hearing aid specialist organizations and some hearing aid companies have already staked out positions against it reiterating that the only approach to effective hearing health care is through an audiologist or hearing aid specialist.
